Overview

Food the only thing that necessary for all the living beings including human from his birth to death. Proper nutrition can ensure disease free healthy life. Adequate knowledge about selection of nutritious food, food consumption, food processing and preservation are the perquisite for good health. ‘Food’ the hidden truth of body’s energy may also be injurious to our health when improperly handled or consumed. Thus the knowledge relating to food and nutrition is a crying need for every professionals and every person. A healthy nation can become wealth of a country. Bangladesh is a developing country with 160 million population in 143 thousand square kilometers area, most of them suffering from various nutrition related diseases as well as they are ignorant about nutrition education and food processing and preservation. They do not know what they are eating or what they should eat. Although Bangladesh has food scarcity but the problem can be overcome through proper nutrition education. Malnutrition or any other nutritional deficiency disorder is not only due to the insufficiency of food supply but primarily due to the lack of nutrition education. The frequency of nutrition related diseases in this region also remarkable. This can be  corrected by giving them proper community nutrition education and diet therapy. Besides various delicious foods can be locally produced that can help our economy by earning foreign currency through exporting. Keeping this view in mind to make nutritionist, food scientist, the Department of Applied Nutrition and Food Technology (ANFT) has been born in Islamic University under the umbrella of faculty of Applied Science and Technology in 1998-1999 academic sessions. The the Department of Applied Nutrition and Food Technology (ANFT) now belongs to Faculty of Biological Sciences and is situated in the first floor of FAST building.
