Overview of the Department of Statistics
The department of Statistics is one of the potential departments in the Faculty of Science and which was initiated in 2009 as the department of Statistics, with Mr. Md. MizanurRhman as Chairman. The department started its journey by admitting 50 students in the Bachelor of Science (Hon’s) in September 2009 with a few number of academic and non-academic staffs, limited resources and laboratory facilities. Students studying for the B.Sc. (Hon’s) degree are leading ultimately to M.Sc. and higher degrees.
At present, the department has altogether 334 undergraduate and post graduate students, and a team of qualified and professionally skilled, young-energetic and sincere academics who are actively performing teaching and research jobs. The department is trying to produce skilled and motivated manpower. The strength of the department is the ability to respond to the rapidly changing world. Statistics places emphasis on the interaction of teaching and research, ensuring that teaching is kept tuned with current thinking for broadening students’ professional dimension. Students of final year B.Sc. program, M.Sc. thesis and non-thesis, M. Phil. and Ph. D. are doing research in different statistical fields. The office rooms are well equipped along with having computer, Photocopier, Printer, Scanner, Water purification plant, Internet & Multimedia Projector facilities. There are 4 class rooms, Seminar Room and 2(two) Computer Lab in the department. It has a Seminar Library having a total of near about 1000 books and Journals. The department has good sanitation and pure drinking water facilities for all.
