The 44th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation and National Mourning Day 2019 observed at IU

The 44th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day 2019 was observed at Islamic University with due solemnity on 15 August 2019. The Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. H. Rashid Askari hoisted the national flag half-mast and the Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M Shahinoor Rahman hoisted the black flag on the Administration Building premises at 9:30 a.m. in the presence of the Treasurer Professor Dr. Selim Toha.  A huge gathering of students, teachers, officers and employees of the university stood in silent homage as a mark of respect for the Father of the Nation. The flag hoisting programme was followed by the offering of dua  and munajat. At 9:45 a.m. a mourning rally led by the vice chancellor and attended by the pro-vice chancellor, treasurer, teachers, students, officers and employees started from the Administration Building premises and ended at the 'Mritunjoyee Mujib' mural premises after encompassing several roads on the campus. At 10:00 a.m. the VC Professor Dr. H. Rashid Askari, accompanied by the Pro-VC and the Treasurer laid a wreath at the altar of the 'Mritunjoyee Mujib'. Islamic University teachers’ officers’ and employees’ associations, the progressive teachers’ association--Shapla Foum, Bangabandhu Parishad, IU Chattra League, residential halls, TSCC, departments, journalist associations and many other organizations placed wreaths to show their respect for the Father of the Nation. A dua mahfil was also held after Zuhr prayer 1.30 p.m. in the central mosque wishing eternal peace for the departed soul of the Father of the Nation.
