Bangabandhu's home coming day and the countdown for his birth centenary celebration were observed at Islamic University, Kushtia in line with the national programme held at the capital's National Parade Square where Bangabandhu landed in the newly-liberated Bangladesh on January 10, 1972. To mark this historic day a discussion meeting and doa mahfil were held on the altar of Bangabandhu Mural where the VC of IU Professor Dr. Rashid Askari was present as Chief Guest. While addressing the programme the VC of IU put emphasis on the dissemination of Bangabandhu's ideal among the students of this university. Pro-VC Professor Dr. M Shahinoor Rahman and Treasurer Professor Dr. Selim Toha also spoke in the programme as special guests. The programme was presided over by the convenor of Bangabandhu's birth centenary celebration committee Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman.
